JAZZ

 

 

JAZZ is the most popular and basic foundation of contemporary dance.  Jazz dancing is driven by modern times and is forever changing styles.  While basic movements remain the same, it is very culturally driven.

 

Graded Levels:

Jazz I, Jazz II, Jazz II, Jazz IV, Jazz V, Jazz VI, Jazz VII, Jazz VIII, Jazz IX, Jazz X

 

Addition Non- Graded Classes:

Beginning Jazz, Pre-teen Jazz, Intermediate Jazz, Advanced Jazz, Broadway Jazz

 

Addition Technique Classes:

Turns & Leaps, Stretch and Flexibility

 

 

CONTEMPORARY DEPARTMENT LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

 

JAZZ I

General age range:  6 years and up.
Requirement: One class per week.*

Instructor: Sharon Mercke

Class Time: MON 5:00-6:00 PM
Advanced Program: Level Jazz class, plus additional Contemporary or Ballet elective.
Alternate Program: Beginning Jazz is available for students who wish to attend more classes on an alternative day, or register for only a weekend class. Beginning Jazz has a greater age range; the syllabus includes Jazz I-IV curriculum.

Dress Code:  Black or Solid Colored leotard with black jazz pants or jazz shorts. Tan or Carmel Jazz shoes. 

 


JAZZ II

General age range: 7 years and up.
Requirement: One class per week.*

Instructor: Danielle Sirinsky

Class Time: TUES 5:30-6:30 PM
Advanced Program: Level Jazz class, plus additional Contemporary or Ballet elective.
Alternate Program: Beginning Jazz is available for students who wish to attend more classes on an alternative day, or register for only a weekend class. Beginning Jazz has a greater age range; the syllabus includes Jazz I-IV curriculum.

JAZZ III

 

General age range: 8 years and up.

General age range: 10 years and up.

Requirement: Two class per week.*

Class Time: WED 6:30-7:30 PM
Advanced Program: Level Jazz class, plus additional Contemporary or Ballet elective.

 JAZZ VII

 General age range: 12 years and up.

Requirement: Three classes per week including 2 Jazz classes with Ballet as the third class.*

Class Time: WED 7:30-9:00 PM

Advanced Program: Level Jazz class, plus additional graded level Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and/or Ballet.
Alternate Program: Intermediate/Advanced Jazz is available for students who wish to attend more classes on an alternative day. Intermediate/Advanced Jazz has a greater age range; the syllabus includes Jazz VII-VIII curriculum.

Dress Code:  Black or Solid Colored leotard or bra top with black jazz pants or jazz shorts. Tan or Carmel Jazz shoes.

 


 JAZZ VIII

 General age range: 13 years and up.

Requirement: Three classes per week including 2 Jazz classes with a Ballet as the third class.*

Instructor: Candra Preshong

Class Time: MON 4:30-6:00 PM

Advanced Program: Jazz Level class, plus additional graded level Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and/or Ballet.
Alternate Program: Intermediate/Advanced Jazz is available for students who wish to attend more classes on an alternative day. Intermediate/Advanced Jazz has a greater age range; the syllabus includes Jazz VII-VIII curriculum.

*Please note that it is not uncommon for contemporary students to be in the same graded level for more than one year.
