Dr. Michael Oberschneider, the Founder and Director of Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services, serves as the Chief Mental Health Consultant for the Loudoun School of Ballet. He is available to support our students and families as needed, as well as our teachers and staff. In addition to being a highly regarded clinical psychologist, Dr. Oberschneider was also a professional ballet dancer and worked for several companies in the past including: the Boston Ballet Company, the Atlanta Ballet Company, the Milwaukee Ballet Company and the Universal Ballet Theatre. He also had the privilege of dancing throughout Europe and Asia prior to returning to college in 1989 to study psychology.
Dr. Oberschneider knows firsthand both the joys and challenges that come with being a student of dance and the importance of maintaining personal wellness. Anxiety, depression, body image, self-esteem, social and eating problems (as well as other sorts of problems) can occur at higher rates for dancers, which is why early intervention is essential when needed. Dr. Oberschneider lives in Leesburg with his wife and two children.
