Placement, Attendance & Inclement Weather

Placement

Each student's class placement is made at the discretion of the department director, not by a student or parent's request or based on the student’s age. Students may work at the same level for one or more years.  Entire classes do not advance to the next level as a unit. Students with poor attendance will not progress at the same rate as those who attend consistently or take additional technique classes. Students or their parents may request re-evaluations at any time during the school year. Students who do not complete semesters due to excessive absences, tardiness, illnesses, or injuries will require additional remedial classes for advancement to the next level for the next year to prevent injuries and to ensure that they master the technique taught at each level.

Attendance (Sick) Policy

If your dancer experiences any of the following symptoms, please keep your dancer home until 48 hours after the dancer is symptom-free:

•      a fever of 100.4 or higher

•      diarrhea/vomiting

•      coughing/sneezing

•      rash

•      head lice

If your dancer or anyone in the dancer’s household tests positive for COVID, is experiencing COVID symptoms, or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID, please follow the LSB COVID chart to determine when the dancer should return to class.

Inclement Weather

LSB does not always follow the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) inclement weather closings because the weather may improve throughout the day, permitting LSB to open. If LCPS is closed, LSB will decide whether to open by noon on weekdays and 8 am on Saturdays. Please check our voicemail message, website, email notifications, and social media sites for the most up-to-date information about inclement weather closings. Follow us on Instagram at lsofballet, Facebook, and on Twitter at @lsofballet.

Many of our faculty live outside Loudoun County, requiring early morning and late evening classes to be canceled because the instructors cannot safely navigate the roads.

If we have to cancel numerous classes due to weather in one year, we will schedule additional ones to be used exclusively for make-up purposes.

Missed Class Make-Up Policy

  • Dancers may make-up in a class of their level or lower.

  • Dancers cannot make-up in a class higher than their level.

  • Dancers must use a similar class for make-up.

  • Dancers may not use the same class more than three weeks in a row for a make-up.

  • Dancers that take an ineligible make-up class will be charged the drop-in rate for that class.

  • Dancers may make-up missed classes in the first semester from September 8 through January 23.

  • Dancers may make-up missed classes in the second semester from January 25 through June 11.

  • Winter and Spring Break are not included in tuition and thus are not “missed classes”.

  • Classes falling on the following holidays are eligible for make-up classes: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving break, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, and snow days.

  • For additional information about making up missed classes, please click on the “More Information” link below.
