The Loudoun School of Ballet
The Loudoun School of Ballet (LSB), fostering a tradition of excellence in dance education since 1977, has trained more than 20,000 dancers. LSB is a proverbial home away from home for dancers young and older who enjoy the athleticism, camaraderie, artistry, and discipline of dancing, and for others who discover a life-long passion that leads them to a professional career in ballet or contemporary dance.
Located on the edge of historic downtown Leesburg, Virginia, LSB has a unique history all its own. LSB's founder was a descendent of E.T.A. Hoffman, who wrote the 1816 book, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, the story adapted in 1892 into the beloved Nutcracker ballet by famed Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa.
While its name implies ballet training, LSB offers classes in all dance genres: classical ballet, pointe, contemporary ballet, jazz, commercial jazz, contemporary, modern, tap, Broadway, lyrical, hip-hop, and musical theatre. With their combined decades of experience training, performing, choreographing, and teaching, our teachers provide the highest level of instruction in all genres, which allows the dancers to reach their fullest potential. For our youngest dancers – the preschool age we like to call Rising Stars, we provide fun, imaginative learning experiences that teach beginner technique through creative music and storytelling, including magical stage performances that will melt your heart.
LSB alumni go on to dance in professional ballet and contemporary dance companies, on Broadway, and abroad, study dance in college, open studios, form contemporary dance companies, and become highly sought-after master teachers and choreographers. Other former LSB dancers attribute their successes in medicine, business, engineering, and other career fields unrelated to dance to the discipline, character, and confidence gained from their weekly dance classes. LSB dance training prepares young dancers to achieve their vast and varied goals.
LSB owners, Cherie and Michael Maroni, are honored and privileged to offer inspiring dance experiences for the students and strive to provide the dedicated dancers the much-deserved opportunity to share their passion and talent with others. To that end, LSB is home to three performance companies for which the students can audition: Loudoun Contemporary Dance Company, Loudoun TAPS!, and the Loudoun Ballet Performing Arts Company, which provide enriching arts experiences for the Loudoun County and Northern Virginia communities.
